‘Top Gun: Maverick’ Getting Closer for Takeoff on Miles Teller’s Muscles

In 1986, the one-time dynamic duo of Don Simpson and Jerry Bruckheimer (e.g., The Rock, Crimson Tide, Bad Boys, Beverly Hills Cop) put out a movie that well… took our breath away.

It was Top Gun and yes, I’m sorry for that last line.

When it comes to pop-culture references and staying power, that Tom Cruise classic captured the hearts and minds of moviegoers everywhere. And then, just as fast as Goose died (yeah, yeah, spoiler alert), it was gone.

The white-dude high five lasted. Feeling the need for speed and losing that loving feeling has remained the craze. And to this day, the ladies love that beach volleyball scene.

Originally, this sequel 32 years in the making was scheduled for July 2019 but since flight sequences look better taped live than CGI, it will be June 2020. We’ll have to wait for Iceman and Maverick bickering at each other and all that cow-cud-gum-chewing.

Maybe you hadn’t heard, Miles “Reed Richards” Teller will be the son of Pete “Maverick” Mitchell’s late sidekick (dang, spoiler alert again…what’s wrong with me). And now, we see “Dad” would be proud of his by-God-jacked-up son!

Can that dude even fit in Goose’s flight suit? Dang! What’s his call sign — Emu?

Well, there’s clearly another volleyball scene coming. At least we have that going for us. You know, if that’s your thing.

In addition to Tom Cruise, Val Kilmer, and Miles Teller, will be Ed Harris, Jennifer Connolly, Jon Hamm, and Lewis Pullman. The script was written by Peter Craig, Justin Marks and Eric Warren Singer. And suitably, Jerry Bruckheimer is back producing with Cruise and Skydance’s David Ellison.
