It seems like only four decades ago when we were introduced one of the biggest baddies in cinematic history when Lord Darth Vader burst onto the scene and through that rebel door.
Since then, we have plowed through some pretty stout competition on the Dark Side, and other sides, including Darths Maul, Sidious, and Tyrannus, Jabba the Hut, Boba Fett and his Mandalorian brethren (coming to a Disney+ near you).
Of course, there’s Ben “Kylo Ren” Solo but then again, no one is really scared of that guy.
In the new trilogy, we got a snoot full of Captain Phasma (fka. Brienne of Tarth) and Emperor Snoke (aka. Caesar, Gollum, Ulysses Klaue), but they’re dead. Thanks Finn and Rey.
So, now who is new to hate? We know that old crotchety geezer Palpatine, but life is better when there is more than one baddie in the Empire, right?
Fear not, fans of the rebellion, for The Rise of Skywalker will introduce us to some other folks.
Meet the Sith Troopers
We won’t have to wait until December either because the Sith Trooper will be franchised at SDCC 2019 next week (July 18-21), according to StarWars.com. Apparently, the Empire stopped by a Pep Boys because that hardware is looking more like a “Pimp my Trooper.”
“It has some really unique aesthetics to it,” says Madlyn Burkert, Lucasfilm archivist, who is co-producing the exhibit. “And it has some subtle ties to previous stormtrooper designs, which I think fans will enjoy discovering.”
There will be a selection of new “Early Release Edition” Sith trooper products debuting at SDCC. Does this get your Star Wars pants going crazy? Even more ready for Episode IX?
Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker hits theaters December 20, 2019.
