Expect “Epic Lightsaber Action” in ‘The Mandalorian’ Season 2

The Mandalorian surprised all of us with just how great its characters and storytelling were, but what was even more surprising than that was its gigantic reveal in the final minutes of the first season.

After his tie fighter crashed during the climax of the finale, Moff Gideon slices his way out of the wreckage with none other than the Darksaber, the legendary Mandalorian weapon that appeared in The Clone Wars and Rebels TV shows.

It looks like we’ll be seeing a lot more of it too. Moff Gideon (played by Giancarlo Esposito) teased its “epic” return at a Fan Expo in Vancouver:

“The prop guys are wondering about me because I was in a bit of a commotion and a bit of a struggle with someone else, which I’m hoping you will enjoy when you see it. Major, major, epic, epic lightsaber action happening on this show, and I should mention that I’m the only character in this first season who was able to be honored with having that lightsaber. So it feels wonderful.”

Duelin’ Mandos

When asked if he would be facing off in a lightsaber duel with the Mando himself, Din Djarin, or The Child, Baby Yoda, Giancarlo shuts it down, saying:

No way. [laughs]. it ain’t gonna happen, baby!

Anything is possible, and you keep watching. Because although the baby has some incredible power, without having to wield the Darksaber, I think the baby is so curious about what this is. So you will be enthused and inspired when you see the scene I’m referring to.

Although it’s still unclear whether Gideon will be facing off in a lightsaber duel or hacking down enemies himself, could the actor be hinting at some kind of special interaction with The Child here?

It’s also important to note that he’s been referring to a particular scene, and judging by his comments, it seems to involve The Child in one way or another.

Unfortunately, we’re going to have to wait for these questions to be answered when The Mandalorian Season 2 premieres in October on Disney+. And given how divisive The Rise of Skywalker proved to be, October can’t come soon enough.
