Today is an iconic day for Batfleck fans everywhere. DCEU fans have been waiting for this day, for a very long time.
Deep in our hearts we have always wanted Ben Affleck to return as Batman on his own terms. The fans have respected him throughout the entire discourse. Batfleck fans have been on a rollercoaster of emotions and today, adds to that evolving, loop-to-loop journey.
BREAKING: It was confirmed today by Vanity Fair that Ben Affleck will return in Andy Muschietti’s ‘The Flash‘ film.
The Argo director’s brooding Dark Knight is coming back for one more movie, with Affleck agreeing to return as Bruce Wayne in the upcoming big-screen version of The Flash, Vanity Fair has learned.
Vanity Fair, Aug 2020
Everyone knows as Affleck was gearing up for his press tour for Live By Night. Yet, everyone was asking him about The Batman script and if he was still directing. Here’s a quick timeline…
- At first, Affleck was signed on as a writer, producer, and director.
- Slowly, things started to shift as the rumor mill began spinning.
- Affleck then welcomed Matt Reeves to the Batcave on Twitter, following his role diminishing from writer and director, to star, to being gone.
Batfleck fans will never forget the Jimmy Kimmel interview where Affleck said he wasn’t Batman anymore. It was gut-wrenching for DC fans everywhere.
What This Means for ‘The Flash’

The article also states Ben Affleck received the script late last week and agreed to do the project this week. The Flash is set for a summer 2022 release, if all goes well regarding COVID -19.
Affleck got the script at the end of last week and agreed this week to join the project.
“He’s a very substantial part of the emotional impact of the movie. The interaction and relationship between Barry and Affleck’s Wayne will bring an emotional level that we haven’t seen before. It’s Barry’s movie, it’s Barry’s story, but their characters are more related than we think. They both lost their mothers to murder, and that’s one of the emotional vessels of the movie. That’s where the Affleck Batman kicks in.”
Andy Muschetti, Vanity Fair
Considering what has been happening behind the scenes for the alleged toxicity on the Justice League set, most fans never would have guessed that Batfleck would return to the role. To make things even extra bat-licious, it is also being reported that Andy Muschietti will still have Michael Keaton’s Batman in the film.
Why? Because the concept of the multiverse can only be executed and explained properly in a Flash movie.
“By threading the concept of a multiverse into its DC storyline Warner Bros is attempting to create a way for all the competing factions of its fandom to coexist together.”
ANDY MUSCHETTI, VANITY FAIR

At first, the idea of a multiverse may sound complicated and messy but with the right people writing the script, and a great director like Muschietti behind the camera, it looks promising. Either way, whether Affleck has a large or a small one in the upcoming Flash film, fans will be more than happy to sit there and watch Batfleck in his most iconic role ever.
