A List | The Best 5 DC FanDome Panels

DC Comics gave their fans a treat with their inaugural, virtual convention and its illustrious DC FanDome Panels. In a truly unprecedented event (no offense Comic-Con 2020), fans were invited into DC’s Hall of Heroes where we were invited to multiple DC Fandome Panels that provided an inside look at upcoming films, video games, and TV series for the comic franchise.

The second the event kicked off, we were treated with John Williams‘ iconic Superman: The Movie theme as we entered a massive virtual “dome” that would house the festivities. After a beautiful montage of all of DC’s respective films and shows, as well as international greetings from hosts all around the globe, the convention kicked off into eight straight hours of exclusive footage, content, and interviews.

All of this was given to us by exclusive DC FanDome panels. No competition. No trouble. Just DC.

There was so much to take in. Just in case you missed one of them, here are the Top 5 DC FanDome panels. (Note: This was strictly focused on the film announcements, one of our team members will dig in to the incredible gaming reveals shortly)

5. Black Adam

This movie is still in very early stages of development and won’t even connect with Shazam! until Shazam 3. However, for a brief 15 min panel, this DC FanDome panel made the most of its time. With a sleek epic background, we see Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson go into depth about what to expect in the upcoming Black Adam film and how he will approach playing the role.

After a brief greeting by Noah Centineo, who confirmed he will be portraying the hero Atom Smasher, we got one of the most exciting reveals of the day…

Clockwise Left to Right: Hawkman, Cyclone, Dr. Fate, and Black Adam

We were blessed with gorgeous concept art for Dr. Fate, Hawkman, and Cyclone who were confirmed to be appearing in the film! Now that alone is news worth getting excited. That little bit of information shows us how much more the DCEU will be growing in the near future.

4. Wonder Woman 1984

The first one of the DC FanDome panels kicked off the day with a bang! The FanDome itself shifted to a color palette of rainbow paint swirls. Then, we were joined by the main cast of Wonder Woman 1984 along with acclaimed director Patty Jenkins. In a wonderful way to give back to fans, the cast personally answered questions.

We also got to see some beautiful fan art and cosplay. That fan interaction and appreciation did not go unnoticed and I commend DC for doing so.

We then got a surprise visit from the first live-action Wonder Woman: Lynda Carter.

It was such a heartwarming moment to see Gal Gadot and Lynda share their admiration for each other. On top of all that, we also were treated with the second official trailer for the film. This panel was stacked from top to bottom!

3. Shazam!!

The Shazam! film from 2019 was a breath of fresh air for comic book movies.

It was truly fun and the cast had an electric chemistry. Like Black Adam, they didn’t have a whole lot to reveal but the aforementioned cast made this panel worth while. Speaking via “Shazoom” video chat, they poked fun at the very concept of the panel and even Shazam himself, Zachary Levi.

Actress Faithe Herman explains she was drawing the new poster for the Shazam sequel and upon finishing we got the funniest and most pleasant surprise. Smack dab in the middle of the poster we got the iconic comedian Sinbad to confirm his role in the film, as well as a title reveal for the film, Shazam!!: Fury of The Gods.

The overall tongue-in-cheek vibe of the panel made it one of the more fun DC FanDome panels we got to see. Some of our MoviesMatrix squad reacted to the panel live with our friends at Geekly Goods and suffice it to say you can see for yourself how wild this panel was.

2. The Suicide Squad

Left to Right: John Cena as The Peacemaker, Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn, Idris Elba as Bloodsport, and King Shark as himself.

Viola Davis. Margot Robbie. Idris Elba. Michael Rooker. To say this cast is stacked is an understatement.

Visionary director James Gunn famously brought to life the lovable band of misfits in Guardians of The Galaxy. He is tackling another eclectic group of troublemakers with this fresh re-imagining of The Suicide Squad. Not only did this panel have Gunn himself but we had every single hero and villain from the film. There were 19 actors on the live chat!

After a silly game of comic book trivia, we got an epic film reel of behind the scenes footage of the upcoming film (seen below). Although fans were clamoring for an actual trailer, this was more than enough evidence that not only shows the films promise but that this film is pulling out all the stops. Enjoy!

1. The Batman

DC truly saved the best for last as the panel for The Batman closed out the night. For some, it was an excruciating wait. Personally, I enjoyed hearing director Matt Reeves go into detail his inspiration for the film and what we will actually see in the film. After an admittedly long 25 minutes or so, we finally got what the entire world was waiting for and wondering about…

Just… WOW.

We didn’t get just a “teaser” as Reeves implied; we got a full on trailer and it looks glorious! Batman fans everywhere rejoice and behold! We see a dark noir aesthetic with a raw, gritty Batman photographed beautifully as he viciously lays down the law.

In one of the most exciting trailers the world has seen in a long time, this makes The Batman a must-see film event. Especially in an impossibly stacked film lineup in 2021, I can not wait for The Batman‘s arrival.
