PlayStation 5: The Great News Announced at the Showcase

PlayStation 5: The Great News Announced at the Showcase

Months and months have gone by with little to no information on the much anticipated PlayStation 5. Not even so much as the release date was known until a showcase on September 16, about two months out from release.

But the veil has finally been lifted, the PlayStation 5 is upon us. It’s a wonder to behold. Throughout the showcase, we saw gameplay from a ton of games, as well as a couple of announcements.

From pricing, to pre-orders, to all the new games, here’s everything you need to know about PlayStation 5.

Finally! PlayStation 5 411

At long last, we know the PlayStation 5 will be released on November 12 in select countries, including the US, and on November 19 everywhere else. The cost is $499 for the standard edition and $399 for the all-digital.

That feels so good to say.

That’s not all though. Pre-orders will go live as soon as September 17. They will likely sell fast, so get your wallets ready.

PlayStation Plus is also getting an upgrade. On top of granting players access to multiplayer and monthly free games, they are adding the PlayStation Plus Collection. This is a massive collection of major PlayStation 4 games all free to play with a subscription. Whether this is a one-time collection or will be updated regularly, like Xbox’s Game Pass, hasn’t been revealed at the time of writing this, but either way it’s a great deal, especially for new PlayStation players.

Games in the collection include “Uncharted 4“, “God of War“, “The Last of Us“, “Detroit Become Human“, “Arkham Knight“, and literally so much more.

There wasn’t any PlayStation VR news, as expected, but the existing headset will be playable on PlayStation 5. And new games are on the way. If you’re looking for a brand new VR headset this holiday season, Oculus just announced the amazing new Oculus Quest 2, which might be perfect for you.

New Looks at Upcoming Games

Trailers galore!

The showcase comprised of mostly gameplay trailers and announcements to show off what this console can really do.

Spider-Man: Miles Morales finally revealed its gameplay with a seven-minute look at its sleek combat. Everything from Miles’ moves and abilities, the game music, and even a Christmas-themed New York. It all looks great. Here, take a look:

We also got a first look at “Hogwarts Legacy“. This is the brand new Harry Potter-themed open world game. It appears to be very expansive with tons of mysteries that’ll be fun to explore. See for yourself:

Going through every game would take forever, but those were two of the big highlights. If you’re interested in all of the games shown off, take a look here.

A little while after the stream ended, we got a list of the confirmed titles that’ll be available at launch:

  • Astro’s Playroom (pre-loaded)
  • Demon Souls
  • Spider-Man: Miles Morales (standard and ultimate editions)
  • Destruction All Stars
  • Sackboy A Big Adventure

There are however, a wide variety of big, triple-A games releasing within a week or two after launch. Don’t worry if that seems at all underwhelming.

God of War: Ragnarok is going to be one PlayStation 5 biggest attractions.

We didn’t just get new looks at games. There was one massive tease at the end. Ragnarok is coming, and we’re not talking about Thor.

God of War: Ragnarok“, sequel to the Game of the Year winner, has been confirmed for 2021.

What a way to end a showcase.

There was a lot that was revealed after the stream ended, which felt strange. We learned about pre-order dates, release dates for certain games, and other headline fodder. Overall, the showcase proved to be a success. It’s just nice to finally know what the PlayStation 5 is all about. The more we hear about it, the more excited we’ve gotten.

This next generation is stacking up to be massive.
