The Comic Colosseum | Black Canary Vs. Huntress

The Comic Colosseum | Black Canary Vs. Huntress

Welcome to The Comic Colosseum, where gladiators, titans, demigods, and the mightiest of Earth’s warriors come face-to-face in a fictitious fight in the historic Flavian Amphitheater. Here, in this hallowed hall of Herculean heroes (and some villains), MoviesMatrix.com will position your favorite comic book and anime characters to go head-to-head against each other to see who is the strongest!

In each battle, we will list what kind of gear they have to adorn and protect their physique. Their unique attributes that shine brightly in a dark competition to the death, the fight location, and if there is “bloodlust” involved in the character’s motivations (i.e., if Superman were to have bloodlust against Lois Lane, he would go for the killing blow).

NOTEThis is a monthly clash of champions. Set your calendars and if you have thoughts on an ultimate character battle, let us know in comments or social media. Now, without further ado, let’s get ready for a geckaphile war in the Comic Colosseum!

NEW RULE: The Leveling Base will be on the Fandom Tiering System. Characters are only allowed to fight characters that are on the same tier level. Unless it is multiple characters versus One.

Red Corner: The ‘Black Canary’ (Dinah Laurel Lance)

So you’re just going to let them take over. Is that it? Maybe then they’ll leave you alone, but I wouldn’t count on it. If you don’t stand up and fight for what’s yours, you won’t have anything left worth fighting for.

Black Canary, Green Arrow vol.2

Black Canary’s first appearance was in Justice League of America #75,’ November 1969. While being born in a family full of crime fighters, Dinah Laurel Lance decided to take on that tradition even though her mother, Dinah Drake, was the first Black Canary.

Deciding to disobey her mother at 19, Dinah trained under Ted Grant (aka Wildcat) who is known to be one of the best martial artists in the DC universe. Dinah Lance is the only one in her family born with the metagene to use the Canary Cry.

Within Dinah Lance’s life, she became one of the most important members of the ‘Justice League.’ She was one of the leaders of the ‘Birds of Prey’ alongside Oracle, aka Barbara Gordon. If you have not noticed, Black Canary is a prominent character in DC mythology that should not be overlooked by comic book fans or even in The Comic Colosseum.

Blue Corner: THE ‘HUNTRESS’ (Helena Rosa Bertinelli)

Huntress Art By Guillem March

I’m not concerned with appealing to men. And I don’t want women to envy me; I want them to respect me.

Huntress Year One issue #3

Huntress’s first comic debut was ‘The Huntress #1,’ in April 1989. While being born in one of the most powerful crime families in Gotham City, the Bertinellis.

While Helena was young, her entire family has massacred. This was in no thanks to her mother Maria Bertinelli falling in love with the rival family head leader, Santo Cassamento.

After experiencing her family slaughter, Helena was taken in by her aunt and uncle in Sicily learning archery and learning to fight. While being a vigilante, Helena has worked with Spyral, who are a covert agency from the United Nations.

Not only has Helena worked for Spyral, she was also a part of the ‘Birds of Prey.’ It is the same tea that included Barbara Gordon, aka Oracle, Dinah Lance, aka Black Canary, and many others. Helena is also apart of the Bat-family, which is badass.

Regulations and Stipulations

  • Morals and Bloodlust are their base character traits unless stated that they have Bloodlust.
  • No leaving the battle location of wherever is chosen as The Comic Colosseum. (If it is in the jungle, they can only move around in the wilderness. If they abandon or are forced out, it is an automatic loss.)
  • Use feats as a reference only. Much like comic book writers do, use your imagination to decide who wins. (Plus, if you compare achievements and powers, where is the fun in that.)
  • If they can not turn into OP Form (aka. “overpowered”) consistently, then they can not use it in battle unless stated. This means you won’t see a “Superman Prime One-Million” in the Comic Colosseum or Wonder Woman flexing into “God mode,” unless provoked.
  • Battle Location: UFC arena
  • Backup: No backup, from any characters
  • Kill or Submit?: Submit to win No Kill, but both are going all out
  • Length of Battle: The Battle Will Last Two hour (Keep in mind, a battle in UFC lasts 15 minutes)

Fight!

When it comes to the best fighters of all time in DC Comics, Black Canary and Huntress are considered to be some of the best. Each combatant is armed with multiple martial arts styles, which they are both proficient in Boxing, Muay Thai, Dragon Style Kung-Fu, and many others.

With that said, for me, it is down to who is the strongest mentally, physically, and emotionally. Black Canary has trained under Lady Shiva, who is said to be one of the deadliest martial artists in DC Comics. Meanwhile, Huntress has gotten respect from Lady Shiva herself, which proves a lot about Huntress as a character.

Mentality, I might give it to Huntress because of her upbringing. Her entire family was massacred in front of her, and soon after, she had to train. Most kids would break down if they just lost one parent, but not Huntress. With that said, Black Canary would pretty much break Huntress down emotionally. When it comes to emotions, Black Canary can use Huntress’s feelings against her to gain the advantage.

Now, it comes down to physical ability. Physically, Black Canary has this in the bag for a couple of reasons. First, these two combatants have trained their body to their limits to become the perfect fighter.

Otto Schmidt

But the differences between the two is their trainer Black Canary got training from the best boxer in all of DC, Wildcat, and the one of the best, if not the best martial artists in all of DC, Lady Shiva. Not to mention, Black Canary has her Canary Cry.

I am giving this battle to ‘Black Canary even though these two combatants have trained their whole lives to become the best. Black Canary has outshined Huntress in two out of the three categories.
