Fans of DC Comics and acolytes of The Snyder Cut alike know what this means. “The Krytonian Mystery” is something that has been in debated in DMs and dedicated subReddits for years, ever since Man of Steel in 2013.
If you remember Zack Snyder‘s foray into the DC Extended Universe, you’ll fondly remember when Kal-El decides to hoof it up to the North Pole, Santa Claus-style (hey kids). Once he gets to the polar cap, he discovers this spaceship and begins to feel soem familiar comfort.
And, that’s where the fun begins.
The Snyder Cut Brings Us “Home”

There’s no place like home, right?
That was the case for Henry Cavill’s character in Man of Steel and, based on Zack Snyder’s words on Vero recently, it will be that way in The Snyder Cut.
We find our hero-in-waiting finding his way inside a Kryptonian spaceship that crash landed into an iceberg. Inside the ship, we walk with Kal-El deep into cavernous hallways, but not empty. Briefly, we find a row of statis pods used to hold him in hibernation.
But, why does there need to be more than one pod for only one person? Maybe because there was more than one saved soul from Krypton? Keen-eyed viewers of that scene saw one pod open, not all of them.
Fast forward seven years later, Zack Snyder finally acknowledged there was truth to that mystery and in The Snyder Cut, we will dive deeper into just what — or who — was in the pod.
Zack Breaks Down the Cut

“If you study Man of Steel, and even in this movie, there’s reference to the open sleeping (pod). Which is, when they walk by it on the scout ship when they’re bringing Superman’s body into — to bring it back to life, there’s a sequence where they… they’re walking through that same hallway that Kal-El walked through when he first came into the scout ship. … Next to that (pod), there’s an open (pod) that showed that someone clearly got out. Who that is remains a mystery to this day, so we’ll see.”
Zack Snyder, Vero, Nov. 2020
That sound you hear was butts puckering across the galaxy! “We’ll see?!” Holy crap!
That pod wasn’t an “oops” in the movie. If you know anything about Zack Snyder, it’s that nothing is left to chance. The man thinks his way through a movie, and The Snyder Cut will be proof of his genius.
And before the conspiracy theorists go crazy, Zack Snyder has already confirmed back in 2018 that open pod is not his cousin, Kara Zor-El. You know? Supergirl. Whoever or whatever it was, we have just another reason to look forward to 2021.
There will be a movie on HBO Max that will be “cut” above the rest.
