“Geek.”
Maybe you get riled up with your friends about the latest horror TV series to binge or a heralded science fiction film. Perhaps you have worn a fetching cosplay outfit or meet weekly for a niche board or card game with a few dozen people.
There may have been a moment when you were debating the vision of a certain director in an action or fantasy film (as if you knew the person) or questioned the casting of someone in a comic book movie. You could have even asked questions about musical genres and you don’t even know how to play a recorder from 8th grade.
In all of these scenarios: You have been called a “geek.” Or “nerd.” Or “dork.”
Whatever you were called, it doesn’t matter any longer because there is a new horizon. In any form of entertainment, the things of “geek” or whatever people would you say you “geek out” about, is now embraced.
- The TV series of which you’re an expert? Geek.
- The movies you go to the midnight showing? Geek.
- The music you study the lyrics or movements? Geek.
- The video games you understand its world building? Geek.
- The fringe sports you adore that others laugh at? Geek.
That was then. Now, anything you have been called “geek” for liking a tad too much is now celebrated in movies, TV, music, books, videos, and podcasts. And now, thanks to MoviesMatrix.com, one you can find in our own rabbit hole.
The Geek Has Swag Now
Hollywood has now entered into the era of the “Geckaphile” where all have opinions…and all are welcome! That word even has history and, thanks to a quick study of etymology, we have proof:
See that trajectory? That is no coincidence. That is America’s pop culture dollars at work. However, like any form of entertainment, it creates emotion, which develops thought. We love to debate. We enjoy a spirited discussion. Even the great creator or The Lord of the Rings saga knew that:
“Some who have read the book, or at any rate have reviewed it, have found it boring, absurd, or contemptible, and I have no cause to complain, since I have similar opinions of their works, or of the kinds of writing that they evidently prefer.”
― J.R.R. Tolkien, The Lord of the Rings
See there? Everyone has opinions. Entertainment is only subjective, which is why we should all be welcome to discuss all forms of it. This blog and this community is the forum to do just that.
Whatever the chatter rousing around the multi-monitored desk surrounded by Funko dolls and CBM collectibles, most of us enjoy discussing what is up entertainment-wise in the lunatic fringe.
Whatever you are here to do in MoviesMatrix, you will find something you can share and enjoy. So take that blue pill, close your eyes, and drift off to Wonderland.
Nighty night.
